Ruby Ellen Still was born in England on 4 July 1887 and had been resident in Jersey for 30 years before the Occupation. Ruby registered as a Jew after the First Order against the Jews in October 1940, as did her mother Theresa Marks, née Leopold. Theresa was born in Jersey 1862 and died on 10 December of 1940.
Ruby and her son Michael were deported to St Malo on 12 February 1943, before being sent to Compiègne near Paris. She was then moved to Biberach internment camp. Michael, was transported to Laufen internment camp and subsequently moved to Biberach. That camp was liberated in April 1945 and the Stills were repatriated to England in June 1945. An announcement appeared to that effect in Jersey’s Evening Post newspaper.
