​​In March 1941, Jersey’s German occupiers ordered that ‘The filing cards of all Jewish persons are to be specially marked and this marking is to consists of a large red J in a conspicuous position and the cards are also to have a red cross strip.’​​

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">Ruby and her son Michael were deported to St Malo on 12 February 1943, before being sent to Compiègne near Paris. She was then moved to Biberach internment camp. Michael, was transported to Laufen internment camp and subsequently moved to Biberach. That camp was liberated in April 1945 and the Stills were repatriated to England in June 1945. An announcement appeared to that effect in Jersey’s Evening Post newspaper.</span></p>
