The monument in Voerendaal commemorates the 34-year-old Belgian resistance fighter Marcel Le Chantre. On 2 September 1944, two armed members of the White Brigade were arrested in Eisden, Belgium, by retreating German soldiers. A man called Parra was shot shortly after his arrest. Le Chantre was executed on 9 September on the Kunderberg. His remains were found in a pit. On his chest was a paper with 'Terrorist' written in red pencil.
Then 16-year-old Grêt Schreijen was the last person to see Le Chantre alive and immediately after the liberation placed a cross on the spot where he had been shot. A few months later, Le Chantre was reburied in Eijsden.
